  Subject: EAL-BILINGUAL Assessment Conference

  Dear colleagues

This notice is to inform you about the conference "Exploring Diversity in Assessment:challenges for English as an additional language" which will take place on Friday 28 September at the University of Bristol. It is jointly organised by The University of Bristol and NALDIC in collaboration with MGSS (Coventry) and EMAS (Bristol).

The accompanying attachment will provide those interested in attending with full information. However in case anyone has difficulty in transferring the attachment, a summary of the key information is provided below:

Speakers will include: Dr. Pauline Rea-Dickins (University of Bristol), Dr Constant Leung (Kings College, University of London) and Pinaki Ghoshal (NASSEA). There will be a range of contributions from teacher practitioners.

  The conference will seek to:
  · identify where we are now in terms of progress made and to reflect on what has been learned in the process of moving forward
  · identify the rich diversity in assessment

  · to develop a greater understanding of what is distinctive about the assessment of EAL and what is just good assessment practice in general

  · share examples of 'best practice' as a basis for further developmental work

  · stimulate the exchange of information across the different groups represented at the meeting

The conference will draw on teacher initiated developments as well as knowledge about assessment and insights gained through ongoing research at Bristol University and Kings College, London.

Poster presentations and displays will take place during the conference. Anyone interested in contributing to these should contact Jenny Patterson (EMAS, Bristol) as soon as possible by fax: 0117 9311619 or by email: jenny_patterson at bristol-city.gov.uk

If you would like a copy of the booking form to be sent by post or fax, please contact Hugh South by fax: 01923 225130 or email: hugh_south at hertscc.gov.uk
