I typed the link in too quickly on my previous posting so here it is again with the correct link. The current TES (6th July) has two accounts of bilingual research (go to page 30): Charmiane Kenner's work on multiliteracies and Raymonde Sneddon's work on cultural influences - both emphasing the value of living in two or more languages. A keen reminder that all this research is fifteen years late because the government officially killed multilingual/multiliteracy work in 1992/3 when it closed down the 26 million pound Language in the National Curriculum and Oracy Projects and banned its dissemination because it would contaminate Standard English. LINC materials have of course been circulating unofficially among consenting adults and have continued to influence good classroom practice - many of us have used the multilingualism video. Now all the folders, radio and TV programmes are available on one CD rom or DVD. Go to: www.collaborativelearning.org/newsletter.html for information on how to get hold of them plus an activity on similes inspired by LINC. Are the HUBS recently set up by the strategy designed to disseminate good practice overall, or just to disseminate the "EAL toolkit" alone. I can't make it to the HUB meetings this week, so would be grateful if someone would ask that important question and post the answer (s) on ealbilingual.
