*WELCOMING LEARNERS FOR WHOM ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE*

*Date:     Friday 22nd June 2007, 10.a.m. to 4 p.m.*
*Venue:   Ushaw College Conference Centre, Durham*

This Naldic regional conference is for teachers and other staff new to
working with isolated newly arrived bilingual leaners.  It is jointly hosted
with Durham EMTAS team.  Helen Abji, Secretary of Naldic, will present
the keynote address and there will be a choice of practical workshops
including:

Sofia Ali - The New Arrivals Excellence Project and the induction of new
arrivals at KS3 and KS4
Dawn Lama - Using Clicker 5 to support EAL learners (Primary)
Claire Bennet - 'Why I hate school': perspectives and responses from
newly-arrived pupils with EAL
Sara Weightman - Ideas and resources for newly-arrived pupils with EAL in
the Early Years
Dawn Lama - Using ICT to support EAL learners (Secondary)
Fiona Ranson - Are you a language-friendly school?
Christiana Rose - New to EAL?  How Teaching Assistants can help
Stuart Scott - How collaborative classrooms support new arrivals
