Article: [eal-bilingual] Using foreign language websites in school

In my secondary school we encourage students to use the bbc news foreign language websites to keep up to date with news in their county of origin. http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/languages/
I think steering towards positive sites helps move them away from the less suitable.
Some students do access a wide variety of foreign language websites, but teachers and IT support staff are vigilant and the internet security manages to filter most of the nasty stuff.
Perhaps the ICT home- school contract needs to be translated into home languages too?

Challenge and discussion about what is or is not acceptable seem to me the best way to manage this, as in the end students have to be self monitoring.

Does anyone have experience of pupils accessing websites in their home
language?
Can you suggest any actions schools can take to prevent access to
inappropriate sites?

Thank you
