Hi Noreen, I can't direct you towards EAL specific undergraduate courses but you could take English language courses with the OU that would be relevant (I work there by the way so beware of bias!). There is no EAL PGCE, you would have to train in a mainstream subject if that's the route you want to follow , so this might be a better route anyway as you could go on to do a PGCE in English. (But you can, of course, enter the profession through other routes, such as the Graduate Training Programme - GTP) Visit: http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/classifications/education_and_teacher_tra ining-language_and_literacy.shtm for a description of the OU courses. I am a EAL Teaching Assistant currently doing a diploma in Ethnic Minority Achievement which is worth one third of a degree. In order to achieve a full degree, i need to accumulate a further two thirds of a degree enabling me to access a PGCE, QTS programme. Is anyone able to direct me towards relevant further studies in the area of EAL?? My concern for qualification increases as my personal responisibility as a sole teacher for new arrivals is steadily increasing.
