Hi Mary Did you know that South Yorks DEC with EMA from Sheffield have produced a DVD on the culture and history of Somalia and have other resources.. I've copied your email to Rob Unwin who should be able to give you more details. Best wishes Prakash Ross ----- Original Message ---- From: MARY HART <mary.hart1 at btinternet.com> To: For practitioners involved in teaching pupils from ethnic andlinguistic minorities <eal-bilingual at lists.becta.org.uk> Sent: Friday, 9 November, 2007 1:28:22 PM Subject: [eal-bilingual] Help needed please I'm rather apprehensive about asking for help but I hope no-one will shoot me down in flames! :( I am working at a tuition centre where KS3 children from the Somali community, have been sent by their parents for various reasons but mostly because the students are not succeeding in mainstream school. The centre is an attempt to engage them in education once more and is run by members of the Somali community itself. As a native English speaker I was asked if I would work with them in English. I am more than happy to do so but it is a steep learning curve for me and I would be very grateful if there is anyone here who would be kind enough to offer me any advice in order for me to be successful in helping these very disaffected young people. Thank you, I hope :) Mary Hart Birmingham ___________________________________________________________ Want ideas for reducing your carbon footprint? Visit Yahoo!
