[eal-bilingual] Article re literacy in early years

Hi
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good and fairly accessible paper/article on why bilingual pupils find many phonic based literacy progs difficult when they first start school? I want to pass this on to mainstream primary colleagues so they read for themselves what the research tells us - something with a few alternative approaches included would also be great.
