Dear Amanda

I would like to recommend a set of books produced by The Leicester
City
Arts & Education team. There are 4 story books about teenagers:
"Emily's
New School", "Shopping in Town", Brody's in Trouble", "A Night Out."
There
are photos of teenagers in typical locations (shop, youth club etc) and
a
relevant easy to read storyline. They have proved very popular with
our
beginners at Key Stage 3.

Phone 0116 299 5977 and ask for Cas Beckett. I spoke to her today and
it
sounded as though she would love to clear her cupboard!

The other readers which we use are the Penguin ones. The pink and the
red
grades are the most useful. If they can cope with the red then it is
not
long before they can access books in the school library. These books
have
questions at the back which I use sometimes.

Hope this helps

Subject: [eal-bilingual] Reading material for secondary EAL pupils

Does anyone know of some good reading material for EAL newcomers of
secondary age? I am supporting a Dari speaker who isn't literate in
his
first language and am looking for books which have a simple text but
which
are age appropriate.
