Article: [eal-bilingual] CiLT Primary Languages Show

Hi Sue (and Amy)

I am happy to share further information off forum with anybody that is
interested (rather than bore everybody here!), but you may also like to know
that I am doing a talk/workshop at the Language Learning and Dyslexia
Symposium, School of Oriental and African Studies, London on Friday 15th
February 2008

'Identification of the difficulties of dyslexic students learning an
additional language' Ian Smythe, Independent Dyslexia Consultant
"Many dyslexic learners around the world have one common problem when
studying - the need to learn English. But this need causes different
problems in different languages. Examples will be used from projects in
Europe (Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria), Brazil and China to highlight the
issues."

For further information, contact: Carol Rifkin, cr28 at soas.ac.uk

um/programme.html

As to that website, I have been trying for years to get the host service
provide to give me access, but they keep avoiding me. I can provide much
better than what you will find there!

Best wishes, Ian

I am presently working at a City College and within our department the
dyslexia assessors are struggling to find resouces which can be used to
assess our students since they all say 'do not use with foreign language

students'.
Can anyone suggest how our students are to be assessed when there is a
suspicion of dyslexia and/or what do others do faced with this problem.

Sue
