Article: [eal-bilingual] On-line course

In Islington we run an online course for teachers and teaching assistants.

The distance learning course (designed for teaching assistants but good
enough for teachers) commissioned by DCSF, developed by Enfield
colleagues and accredited by Middx Uni which I have been piloting over
the last two years with colleagues in other LAs would work well BUT it
is in limbo at the moment because of contractual problems. This has
been very frustrating for all the colleagues involved since HMI were
very positive about it. The strategy may be taking it on next year,
but they will need to get a move on since the recruiting process will
have to start in March. I intend to contact the strategy soon to see
what is happening.

I know there are a number of possibilities as regards acquiring EAL
certification via distance-learning, but I wondered if anyone had a
particularly good course to recommend. The focus is on primary-age
children, and ideally it could be done exclusively on-line.

Many thanks in advance.
