|
Hello All, I work as a TA in a large, low diversity secondary school in East Anglia where we now have several isolated EAL learners (children of migrant workers mainly from Portugal, Lithuania and Russia). I enjoy working with them very much and as a result am also doing a degree in English Langauge Teaching. I am currently working on my dissertation "How can TAs give effective language support to non-English speaking pupils in mainsream secondary education?" I'm finding lots of information on the principles which underpin effective practice of teaching and learning EAL but what I'm really looking for are practical suggestions for TAs in the classroom to help these pupils access the lesson, ie. modifying tasks etc. Any input or comments would be very welcome. Regards. VJW |
