Colleagues This is a US publication but may be of interest. I recently picked up a new book by Margo Gottlieb - Assessing English Language Learners Bridges from Language Proficiency to Academic Achivement which may be useful to us here - Corwin Press - A Sage Publication Company ISBN 0-7619-8889-0 Sara Sara Green Head of Language Development Service Family and Children's Services Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Isaac Newton PDC 108a Lancaster Road London W11 1QS Tel: 020 7598 4817 Fax:020 7598 4808 Mobile: 07971 327479 sara.green at rbkc.gov.uk EAL 14-19 website: www.rbkc.gov.uk/eal14to19 RBKC website: www.rbkc.gov.uk -----Original Message----- From: eal-bilingual-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:eal-bilingual-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk] On Behalf Of Luan Porter Sent: 18 June 2008 18:45 To: For practitioners involved in teaching pupils from ethnic and linguisticminorities Subject: [eal-bilingual] Training - assessing speaking and listening Dear all Does anyone know of a good training resource to help EAL and mainstream staff accurately assess the speaking and listening skills of bilingual learners and assign them an approp language stage/level (1-4 in England)? I've checked out the teachers TV excerpt but the clarity of the pupils' talk isn't great. It doesn't need to be video, audio would suffice.
