Article: [eal-bilingual] Excellence and Enjoyment: Learning and teaching forbilingual ch. in the primary

Hi
Yes our county uses it. Usually an EMA HLTA delivers but we are also encouraging school staff to use it when appropriate- the problem with that is that school timetables are often tight and in our area our EAL learners are often isolated so it is delivered to one pupil only. We have also delivered sessions to small groups with native English speakers as well as an EAL learner.
It appears to work well if school staff are aware of what is being covered in each session and can therefore reinforce/monitor in the classroom
Pupils appear to be transferring skills from Ex and Enj sessions into work in the classroom and should ultimately impact on achievement
One last thing - we sometimes use different texts than those suggested as sometimes the texts/materials are not always age appropriate

Hello,
Has anyone had any experience of using the above mentioned dfes guidance document? I'm interested to hear of its usefulness and who delivered it(teacher/TA)?
Thanks,
Anne.
