Article: [eal-bilingual] EAL/EMAG student trip

I am not sure whether this is a model you use for other pupils, but would query whether this is appropriate for EAL learners to be taken out specifically on their own with an external agency and no school staff present. Am sure their parents will have a view anyway and there will be issues of H and
S. It is not something I have done, but anyone working with such a group needs to know about their backgrounds and EAL. Also isn't a key aim of any such visit to build relationships between this group of pupils and staff in the school ? And this cannot be realised if the pupils are taken out by an
external body. There is also the issue of feedback/follow-up and so ideally the group should have someone familiar with them.

Subject: [eal-bilingual] EAL/EMAG student trip

Good morning,

I was wondering if any EAL/EMAG departments had ever used an external school trip organiser to take a group of EAL students on a trip within the UK - and if so if there are any particular organisations/trips that they would recommend.

I would very much like to take some students away - I imagine Stratford would be interesting, or York - but it may be something we would have to outsource in terms of organisation.

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

Many thanks for any adviceToni Malone
