Dear Colleagues,
We feel that you may be interested in attendng the launch to SHARED Futures,
a Comic Relief funded refugee integration project. There are still places
left at the launch, which is to be held at 9:30 for 10am on June 17th at Regent’
s College, Inner Circle, Regent’s Park, London NW1 4NS. Lunch is provided.
The launch includes a welcome from the actor Juliet Stevenson and a keynote
speech from Sir Al Aynsley-Green (Children’s Commissioner for England). We
will be giving those who come a free DVD and resource pack that we have produced
for schools, youth clubs and other community settings.
If you would like to come, please email the project manager Duncan Little,
_duncanlittle1234 at hotmail.com_ (mailto:duncanlittle1234 at hotmail.com) , who can
send you an invite should places be available.
It is a resource that we are sure you will find very helpful in your work
with refugee children and young people and other international new arrivals.
SHARED Futures has- looked at practice across the UK that supports
integration, identified successful projects, approaches and activities and developed a
DVD and resource pack to showcase effective practice and assist schools, youth
groups and other community settings to further develop their work. More
information about SHARED Futures can be found on the website:
_www.sharedfutures.org.uk_ (http://www.sharedfutures.org.uk/)
The key practice areas covered by the resource are:
x Listening to young refugees
x Supporting friendship
x Creating a safe environment
x Tackling media myths
x Celebrating cultural diversity
x Welcoming new arrivals and supporting transitions
x Promoting success in school
x Involving parents and carers
x Developing an inclusive vision
x Promoting children’s and young people’s participation
Hope to see you there
