Article: [eal-bilingual] London Association of English conference 10th May

You may have seen this bit of the EMA online newsletter about
collaborative work in Year 8 English featured on Teachers TV

"Ginny Burfield from the EAL team in Suffolk has identified some
interesting and potentially useful broadcasts.

In the broadcast Teaching Talking 2 http://www.teachers.tv/video/1493
a newly qualified teacher designs an inclusive collaborative lesson on
the novel "Holes" by Louis Sachar. She then discusses it with her
mentor. Ginny adds her own review to the BBC site where she describes
it as an excellent clip to show teachers who are new to working with
EAL pupils, especially the inclusion of the new, non English speaking
pupil. Also the clear demonstration of the benefits of collaborative
activities to encourage thinking, speaking and listening makes this a
superb resource for training teachers."

John Yandell from the Institute who is the mentor in the discussion is
the keynote speaker at the next LATE conference next Saturday. Details
on
www.late.org.uk
Please encourage colleagues to attend and please come too. You can
book by email and pay on the door. Hope to see you there.

Best wishes, Stuart
