Book Review: Innovation Happens Elsewhere it's available on line: http://dreamsongs.com/IHE/IHE.html Aimed at the corporate manager considering an open-source project. Not me then, but as it cuts both ways, of interest... Strangely, as whilst extremely repetitive, it does mention that very few projects are successful, and the huge majority aren't, so commonsense would suggest that one might sell more books by aiming lower? Here are a few quotes I enjoyed: Most open-source communities need to have an email (or push-based) culture in order to seem vigorous and viable. Design for growth and change, Create and maintain feedback loops, Empower your community members. Sometimes a gifted designer or someone who understands the user community very well is not a gifted coder, and you should encourage developers to work with such people. Let your users help make your project more successful. You need to listen to their needs when designing future versions of your product. In fact, your users should be part of your project's design team. regards Jonathan Chetwynd http://www.dreamsongs.com/IHE/IHE-14.html#44165 http://www.dreamsongs.com/IHE/IHE-55.html#74306 http://www.dreamsongs.com/IHE/IHE-64.html#80164 http://www.dreamsongs.com/IHE/IHE-68.html#63158 |
