Microsoft and Novell announce plans for Microsoft UIA to be available on Linux, along with a bridging technology to existing the Linux Open a11y standard (which is managed by the Open a11y, group www.a11y.org). http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/nov07/11-07MSNovell1YearPR.mspx Some of the details are hazy, is it application or AT side or both, will it require Mono (.NET for Linux) and has the requirement for a managed solution be finally gone. How does an Open Source solution sit with a pledge not to enforce patents? This move does indicate that Microsoft are taking Linux accessibility seriously. -- Steve Lee -- Jambu - Alternative Access to Computers www.fullmeasure.co.uk |
