well there are technical benefits to the groups, but more immediately beneficial are the search benefits. tags as descriptions are all very well if there are the symbols for them, otherwise they are useless to our users. similarly a style description is great, but an example is better, bear in mind that your designer's style is but one of many. now my fruit category graphic is a holder, waiting for your icon designer, in combination possibly with others to decide which category icons will be most useful and easily understood. I've no doubt at all that their output if tested with users will immediately improve on #fruit.
