We're looking at how to present the accessibility options for alt input users in GNOME (LInux) and would really like input from any GOK, OnBoard or mouse tweaks users or their representatives, or even if you'd just like to see better support (that includes for touch screen Kiosks). We want to make sure that it is possible to select suitable AT on start-up of shared PCs and also remember the config for dedicated PCs, plus provide the same options on the desktop. So please do contribute if you have anything that you think is important. -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology Software web: fullmeasure.co.uk blog: eduspaces.net/stevelee/weblog ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Steve Lee <steve at fullmeasure.co.uk> Date: 19 May 2008 16:19 Subject: request: help design Alt input selection for Linux To: David Bolter <david.bolter at utoronto.ca>, Francesco Fumanti <francesco.fumanti at gmx.net> We want to work out how users will select alt input options OSK, overlay and pointer input options in GNOME at the login prompt and at desktop once logged in. So thats currently GOK, Dasher, OnBoard and mousetweaks. (lets kick this off on email and do the wiki thing later.) So how do we clearly assign the selection options for most common use cases. Well first what are they. He's a starter for 10 * Pointer only use - AKA OSK * mainly for kiosks and other touch screen and tablet/mobile users * use onboard or GOK? * mousetweeks options, dwell click etc * useful with above and with mouse * gestures * some settings are control panel only * restricted gesture access - e.g switch use, sequential access * control and text entry * GOK - control. * dasher text - advanced user only How does accessX fit in? ? Is that right? is there overlap, or with other options like screen reader/mag. ? how do we map to mccann's prefeences dialog, http://blogs.gnome.org/mccann/2008/05/19/ease-of-access/ ? how handle gestures to launch - do we need and can we for switch? ? should anyone else be in on this discussion Over to you.... -- Steve Lee -- Open Source Assistive Technology Software web: fullmeasure.co.uk blog: eduspaces.net/stevelee/weblog |
