Article: secretin therapy for Autism.

I have been watching the Trevor McDonald television news reports on secretin therapy .It was most encouraging to note positive changes in the behaviour of Autistic children treated with secretin injections.I wonder if anyone on the forum knows of what the treatment involves as I should imagine it extends beyond simply injecting the enzyme.

I base this on the cost of treatment quoted in the programme(something like £1000 )compared to the price of a 75 unit vial used for the diagnosis of pancreatic insuffiency.

The 1996 King Healthcare Formulary indicates that each 75 vial costs £16.45p,the dosage being 1-2 units as slow injection.Assumming 3 years inflation this would still suggest that each treatment of secretin should be very, very cheap.

Can anyone shed light light on what in "total" treatment with secretin involves?.
