| Article: disapplication from modern langs | |
|
I changed schools in September and am settling in at a large comprehensive school in Reading. I believe that all of our youngsters should follow a modern language but have a Year 9 boy who, I am told , was disapplied by his parents. The Head of French is extremely supportive and believes that he can get all of our students a grade in French. However, I have a Year 8 boy with spld whose father is determined that he should be disapplied from French in order to do extra English! I have discussed many of the pros and cons with him (father) and the Head of French has also offered to talk to him. However, he has told me that he is prepared to go "head to head " with me over this issue. Where do I stand on this? Can parents disapply youngsters against the advice of the school? Any help on this issue would be very welcome. The boy is actually making good progress in French.
