| Article: [senco-forum] An amateurs definition of reading | |
|
Hi All It may appear that I have been guilty of making the assumption that there was a pre ordained definition of what reading is or how it is defined. Coming from the background of one with a problem in this area I assumed that others would have the answer, but during some off list communication this appears not to be the case. For me reading is about the delivery of a pre recorded message, and the ability to decode the visual interpretation of a repeatable sound message. Although it could be also argued that; some can read the same massage from an elaborate pictorial freeze. So the definition we are seeking revolves around the ability to interpret the message contained is the visual notation of Speech, which many call text. So we have narrowed the definition to reading text, or interpreting text. The next part of the definition I would imagine should define the skills required to reach this objective, and the range of skills required to match the various strengths and weakness that all who are expected to perform this may have or even may not have. There should also be some input as to how some deficits can be compensated for. This is just a collection of random ideas which the many professionals on this forum will no doubt correct and provide the real explanations.
