Article: [senco-forum] Training for all teachers

All of Sheila's -- very good -- but also:

1. The changing roles of various professionals in schools in relation to SEN
2. The "inclusion" v special school debate -- voice of
government/LAs/professionals/parents/children and young people
3. Role and real constraints re: external agencies -- central advisory
teams/SALTs/EPs , etc.
4. Focus on hidden disabilities that generate most controversy between
parents/LAs and professionals (dyslexia/autism/ADHD , etc.).
5. Children with SEN at risk of exclusion -- managing difficult behaviour
6. Ethical issues related to professional integrity v career protection --
job description/employee duties v professional independence of action
7. the role of independent charities and parents organisations
8. the role and notional "independence" of parent partnership services
9. statements/specificity of/and annual reviews (SEN laws and regulations
concerning these)
10. funding of SEN and the legally based notion of completely needs-led
provision to sufficiently meet all children's SEN
11. managing TAs etc., within the classroom -- role of SENCo (as it changes)
12. well-tried and tested teaching approaches re: core National Curriculum
(e.g. teaching of reading/literacy in primary, etc -- hands on practice.)
13. primary / secondary teaching and organisational issues depending on
students future career wishes.
14. combining key Council departments into Children's Services -- likely
effects
15 formal appeals and complaints systems -- teachers roles and likely
responsibilities -- e.g. appearing at a SENDIST hearing -- duty of care -- advice
to parents, etc.
16 teachers role in referrals for SEN procedures (SA/SA+/Statutory
Assessment, etc.)

I could add more -- but this would defeat the notion of a brief one yr pgce
general course for all teachers -- if this list does not already do that.
