[senco-forum] Department Handbooks and policies

I am taking over as SENCo at a small, secondary independent school in  
September and we have an inspection in January. There is a Department Handbook  
which was written in the late 90's and probably needs updating and perhaps  
reducing to reflect changes in working and development of whole school policies.  
Does anybody have an any advice on policies which should/must be contained  
within such a Handbook, please?
