Article: [senco-forum] Developing listening skills in secondary pupils

Hi Lorraine,

I trhink you need to look to the causes of the listening problems. In many
cases poor listening skills may be linked to Auditory Processing Disorder, in
which listening/attention are not the problem but understanding what is heard,
couples with sequencing and short term memory deficits. Attention deifcits
are other issues to consider, as well as behavioural problems.

Our handout on classroom management of APD, "How Schools and Colleges Can
Help" is available here, www.lacewingmultimedia.com/APD.htm and outlines ways
in which this can be better accomodated in class.

Getting to the root causes will help the pupils more than just making them
listen better.

Best wishes,
Aly
