Article: [senco-forum] Developing listening skills in secondary pupils

"The original thread was for mainstream secondary not just APD and I didn't
recommend dictation instead of worksheet - wouldn't both be a good idea? then
the child/teacher can see what the discrepancy is and the children have a
safety net. "

With the lack of time available for teachers to even get through the
curriculum or find time to help the kids with SEN, why waste time on it?

There are many children with SEN who cannot master dictation for many
reasons as listed by myself and Clare who said "Writing down a dictation involves
several
other skills as well as listening and memory, processing speed, physical
coordination etc...."

Visual processing is also an issue, sequencing both auditory and visual,
short term, sequential AND working memory, those with dysgraphia and dyspraxia
as well as those with reading ansd spelling issues, attentin deficits etc.
also those with hearing and vision deficits.

This issue does not just concern those with APD.

Best wishes,
Aly
