I think the war gaming activities are a wonderful idea. It is not only autistic children who have difficulty making friends and may suffer from social isolation because of communication difficulties (like those with APD but others too). Many children, as stated, wander round aimlessly at lunchtimes and breaks and are at their most vulnerable to bullying at these times, so this will also help to protect them from that. Many of these children may also be very bright with dual exceptionalities and enjoy the added intellectual stimulation too. Would it be possible to do this with other types of games not just war games? Perhaps the dungeons and dragons type of thing? These sorts of activities also foster a child's imagination and self-worth. There are also those younger children who do not enjoy sports or rough play that others seem to favour, so perhaps this idea might provide something for them, like the Games Club with board games as Chris mentioned but for primary age pupils.
