Eddie, "I do not know if any of the children had APD and quite frankly, I dont care. The condition is not well defined - a credible, objective means of establishing its existence/severity is not currently available nor indeed is a credible, means of responding to it. I prefer to stand on firmer ground which has the support of logic." Now we have it from your own mouth. Quite frankly I am DISGUSTED by this comment in behalf of all those that have APD, still suffer undiagnosed in school because of APD and will continue to suffer because of attitudes like yours. You should be ashamed. You are a so-called advocate of help for dyslexia when APD IS a major cause of dyslexia and not to admit it is preventing millions of children getting the right help. You have also discredited and invalidated the efforts of many on this forum who try to help those with APD daily, many of whom buy your products. If APD did not exist, it would not be recognised in many of the countries in the world such as the US. _http://www.firn.edu/doe/bin00014/pdf/y2001-9.pdf_ (http://www.firn.edu/doe/bin00014/pdf/y2001-9.pdf) If it did not exist, my son would be able to function in a mainstream classroom. If it did not exist, the government would not have funded £12 million into researching accurate diagnostic testing for it and the Medical Research Council Institute of Hearing Research would not have published this APD pamphlet, which I'm sure you haven't read. _http://www.ihr.mrc.ac.uk/products/leaflets.php#apd_ (http://www.ihr.mrc.ac.uk/products/leaflets.php#apd) If it did not exist, it would not be necessary for people like me to have to convince people like you....believe me I wish to God it were not necessary. I would love for nothing more than to not have to spend half my life working to get APD recognised in the face of such crass and bigoted opposition by those that should know better. The Medical Research Council Institute of Hearing Research working party on APD includes UK and internationally renowned experts, _http://www.thebsa.org.uk/apd/Home.htm_ (http://www.thebsa.org.uk/apd/Home.htm) These people are a FAR more credible body than your very suspect logic of Eddie Carron. I will not be responding to any more of your emails, onlist or offlist, as it is now apparent it is a waste of my time. You will never change your blinkered view. I truly feel sorry for you. Best wishes, Aly Chair Auditory Processing Disorder in the UK/APDUK www.lacewingmultimedia.com/APD.htm www.apduk.org |
