Hmm, last three paragraphs of this story:
" While sympathising with the concerns of parents like Mrs Maynard, Mr Jones
from Windsor and Maidenhead council said the new approach meant more time
and money being made for the pupils themselves.

"There's a huge amount of work on the part of educational psychologists that
goes into writing statements - there are several days' worth of work that go
into writing a report for a statement.

"This is time that could be spent in the school, advising on ways of
adapting the curriculum, differentiating teaching methods and so on." "

Here is a quote* from some of the law that governs many statementing
procedures:

"The advice ... shall be written advice relating to -

(a) the educational, medical, psychological or other features of the case
(according to the nature of the advice sought) which appear to be relevant
to the child's educational needs (including his likely future needs);

(b) how those features could affect the child's educational needs, and

(c) the provision which is appropriate for the child in light of those
features of the child's case, whether by way of special educational
provision or non-educational provision"

It seems to me that Mr Jones' need for "... advising on ways of adapting the
curriculum, differentiating teaching methods and so on" is entirely
contained within sub-paragraph (c) above. I see no potential loss of EP time
here.

* From regulation 7 of The Education (Special Educational Needs) (England)
(Consolidation) Regulations 2001 which are to be found in the back (p151) of
every copy of the SEN Code of Practice.
