I unsubscribed from the forum a few months ago because the topics being discussed were of no interest to me. I subscribed again only to make this one posting. The topics discussed on the forum are principally concerned with the administration of illiteracy whereas I am concerned only with its remediation. Since few if any of the postings are connected with the resolution I unsubscribed and thought that that would be the end of it. However, I was contacted by a list member who took a similar view and also suggested that there should be a ring-fenced debating forum devoted exclusively to the initial teaching of reading and the resolution of reading illiteracy generally. The fact that just over 100,000 children leave school every year unnecessarily less than functionally literate should be a cause for greater concern than is apparent. Of course the topics discussed on the forum are important and of interest to people whose work is the administration of illiteracy but if enough people agree that there is a case for a dedicated debating forum for illiteracy and make their views known to BECTa I'm sure they would respond positively.
