Aly That's why I said that literacy is a key responsibility of a SENCO Richard -----Original Message----- From: senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk [mailto:senco-forum-bounces at lists.becta.org.uk]On Behalf Of Olanys at aol.com Sent: 11 December 2006 20:49 To: senco-forum at lists.becta.org.uk Subject: Re: [senco-forum] literacy Hi, In reply to Eddie...do you know what methods are used in these other countries to attain such a high level of literacy? To Amanda and Richard and all the other sencos here...I can appreciate that you have many aspects to your role, but that notwithstanding, the children with all the conditons mentioned all have a common link- no matter what their difficulties, they will all need to be literate. Without literacy NONE of them can access the curriculum or even hope to attain independent learning. If is not the senco's role to ensure this, then whose is it? One could say the English teacher but in those with SEN, the SEN is the reason these children are not literate. Who ultimately takes responsibility for the literacy of these pupils?
