Article: [senco-forum] Autism Spectrum-unacceptable behaviour

Does he have a statement and sufficient trained/experienced support and specialst teacher/mentor support?
Have other LA externals been brought in (including EP)?
How long has he been with you?
How long have the current behaviour difficlties been occurring?
Is there a Behaviour Plan in place?
Is he primary or secondary phase?
Has Tourrettes been considered?
What type of AS has been diagnosed?
What did CHAMS advise?
What is his general ability level?
Are any other difficult behaviours presented?
Does he attend to lessons and make learning progress?
Is he significantly disrupting other pupils opportunity to attend to lessons?
Have the DDA requirements been considered (reasonable adjustments/treating child differently to treat him equally)?
What is the parental view on current issues and behavoiur difficuties?
Is your school the parents/pupil's preferred placement? Or is it the LAs decision primarily?
If statemented has an early/emergency review been called -- involving all appropriate professionals and SEN officer?
If an early/emergency review has been called -- is appropriatness/sufficiency of support/specialist input and appropriateness of placement on the agenda?

I would want to know the answer to these and many other questions before I felt it possible to offer considered professional advice concerning an AS child with seemingly complex difficuties -- Brendan King

I have an AS pupil (year 8) who is currently swearing at other pupils most
horribly using sexually explicit language, unprovoked.
The language shocks and repulses me. We did not exclude last time but did social
stories and work with the group he had offended but I can't see how I deal with
the last few days when it has intensified except by sending him home. Tomorrow
we are going to isolate him in our area as a last stand. We have consulted
CAMHS.
Any suggestions?
Felicity
