We had considered this idea in Newham. But it seems more designed for class/subject teacher role, for example is externally accredited and involved class teaching or at least teaching group of 15 or more. What we are going to pursue now is Leading Teacher Network. The reason for our interest is that this can be internally accredited according to criteria that "fit" the needs of schools in the LA. We currently have LTs for maths, English and management. A number of schools and newly appointed SENCOs have approached us with request for help and what amounts to a "buddy system" i.e. someone to act as critical friend and give practical help and advice. We as an LA would offer help and support in terms of initial training and support network. I would be interested to know if other authorities use this or some similar scheme and how they run it?
