Likewise Dyslexia Action or BDA tutor support (as seen on the recent TV programme) is available to some in Young Offenders centres. Talk about shutting the stable door... I know it is not impossible to implement change at any age, but would be kinder and socially more responsible to do when or before a child starts school. Merry Christmas & see you all in January. The Shannon Trust is providing a teaching-pack (including Toe by toe) to all prisoners who want to teach other prisoners to read and the strategy is apparently working very well. It is of course enormously cost-effective and we can be absolutely certain that these new voluneer tutors will never be able to claim that they are too busy with their wider responsibilites to carry out their tutoring duties in literacy. It would appear that anyone who is illiterate need only get themselves sent to prison if they want to learn to read? Problems solved! Google up 'Shannon Trust' for further details. Merry Xmas to all.
