| Article: [senco-forum] Help please LEA not continuing statement as pupil transferring to another LEA secondary | |
|
I know a few weeks ago there was some discussion on here about LEA's devolving funding to schools and not issuing statements. I didn't really take a lot of notice as our LEA are not doing this, however this week I regretted not taking more notice as....... I went to a statement review for a Year 6 pupil this week. He is transferring to us in Sept. He has 15 hours of LSA support on his statement, however, the LEA have indicated that they are only maintaining the statement for the first year in secondary school and said this is because he no longer meets the criteria. We had this pupil in for testing two weeks ago and his standard scores are all in the 70's and -70 range, we ran, Nfer cats, reading comprehension, spelling, word recognition, free writing was very poor. His statement is for Speech and Language. Anyway at the review, which the LEA did not attend, I asked about why the statement was not going to carry on and was told by the EP that the bourough had delegated all funds to schools and that because he was coming to a different LEA for secondary school they would not continue to fund this. I would be grateful if people could offer me some advice. He is clearly a very needy little boy and he is never going to cope without the support having a statement gives him. How do I go about "fighting" to maintain his statement? or does the fact that he is coming out of the LEA who devolve funding mean I have no hope. This is unknown territory for me! Any tips are warmly welcome. Thanks in advance Trish. |
