Request an assessment or re-assessment (or get parent to do this)  and the LA 
 will have to gather evidence -- which would be shot down  in flames without 
a recent EP assessment and report -- Your Head can make the  request, or 
parent or both. Refusal to either triggers a right to appeal. So a  request for a 
statutory assessment gives access to a free EP assssment (some  LA's have tried 
to charge schools for EP assessments involving a statutory  assessment -- but 
this is unlawful -- just point out that statutotry assesment  procedures must 
bew arranged (ie paid for ) by the LA.  Brendan
