It will also deter many from entering the profession as the salary will not reflect the effort required to obtain an Ed.D. If you want to be well paid in the world of education you do not become an EP most of whom are paid a great deal less than the teachers / heads etc. they advise. The shortage may actually be worse than expected due to the ageist attitudes of many services and LEA's. My experience is that principals prefer younger and less experienced no doubt because it easier to fit them into the policy straitjacket, experience counts for little, adherence to policy issues and flavour of the month is much more important.
