Article: [senco-forum] Classroom Assistant Interviews

Hi Andrew

I'd be very wary of interviewing on your own. I usually interview with the Head or a Deputy plus me (SENCO) plus either a support teacher or my TA Team leader. We've always got a least one person who is able to sit back and listen while not trying to kepep the conversation going. It also means that we discuss who we will employ. And, on the one occasion when we made a huge mistake, I could claim it wasn't me! Seriously, I always say I am responsible for deployment, not employment and I am very wary about being responsible for deciding who to employ.
As for questions - we've just had a thread on this. Try the archives.

  I need some help.

I am a SENCO at a comprehensive school looking to employ 2 new classroom
assistants. I have been asked by the Headteacher to interview a number of
candidates and make my decision. The head has asked me to devise some appropriate
questions and possibly some form of test and/or time to work with pupils
etc. Can anyone help me with ideas if they have recently been involved in
interviewing. Thank you. Andrew
