Article: [senco-forum] interviewing learning mentors

A while ago I asked for any advice about what
questions I could ask when interviewing for a learning
mentor. Thanks to those who replied, especially Amanda
the Secondary SENCO in Cornwall - thanks for the
advice. Here are the questions I eventually used in
case they are of use to anyone else :
1. In school you would be working with children from
reception age to year 6, can you describe a situation
when you have worked with children from different age
groups.
2. What do you see as the main elements in forming a
working relationship with a child?
3. Can you describe a situation when you experienced
difficulty forming a relationship with a child and
what did you do to overcome this?
4. What would you do if you were working with a child
and you realised that issues or concerns were arising
that were beyond your ability or your role?
5. What services within the educational system and in
the community have you had contact with in you current
or previous roles?
6. Please describe an experience of when you have
actively involved parents in your work with a child.
7. What factors do you think contribute to a child’s
difficulty in school?
Happy summer holidays, when they finally arrive, to
you all,
Helen
