Article: [senco-forum] social skills

Janice, Try a new book by John Ling, "I can't do that." Lucky Duck. It's
social stories really, but some of the traits you describe are listed in the
contents/index. I have just used the one about personal space with a y8
pupil.

Diana

Subject: [senco-forum] social skills

I've a little lad in Yr 7 - statement for speech and language - some social
problems that I'd like to help with.
Obviously I've asked EP and specialist teacher for advice but thought
someone out there might have some practical advice too. Curent EP doesn't
know him and I need to do a new referral anyway.
He does several things which really annoy other pupils and puts them off a
bit. As he goe sinto Yr 8 he is going to find that people will tolerate him
less and their 'oh isn't he sweet, must help poor little Alex' will
disappear rapidly.
He stands too close to people when talking(no idea of personal space),
interrupts all the time and calls out, sniffs and snorts when he has a cold
and wipes his nose on his sleeve etc and it gets all over his face, undoes
his trousers during lessons to adjust his clothing........stuff like that.
I was thinking of doing some 1:1 social skills type things with him - get to

these points in a round about sort of way - and wondered whether anyone knew

of a publication which might give me guidance or has done similar.
Thanks

Janice
