Article: [senco-forum] SENCO teaching duties

Hi Grace

I teach 20 out of 30 lessons next year. I think this is a lot. I teach mainstream English but next year I am going to have bottom sets in Years 7 to 10 and top set year 11, mainly to cut down on my marking load.
I have 2 lessons a week of PPA and I lable three lessons a week as SEN. I do not have cover for those. I have ten frees in total.
I think I have done four cover lessons in the entire year! I don't have a tutor group so I often cover for registration. I think it is unreasonable for you to do 3 or 4 covers a week.

  Hi
as someone new to the post of SENCO can anyone advise what the teaching commitment of a SENCO is?
Also do SENCO's usually form part of the cover teaching quota? I am asked to cover classes 3 /4 times a week is this normal practice?

Grace
