Hi, I am new to this, so please be patient with me. My name is Sue and I am a senior school SENCO and E2L manager in the south west. I would appreciate your views on a school situation I have as I am trying to work out the best approach to my head teacher. I am not allowed to withdraw pupils for anything other than assessment. Additional literacy support takes place either before or after school but some pupils (generally the most needy) do not attend, despite our best efforts, involving parent, bribing through rewards etc. This means that we have pupils with very low reading and spelling levels not accessing any specific support for these skills!!! I have now been told to provide literacy support programmes for these children during their 35 minute lunch break. These are children who have concentration problems, no automaticity of literacy skill and often have some social problems as well. They would be working for 3 1/2 hour without a proper break. Is this acceptable??!! Your views please, plus any suggestions.
