Sue These pupils need their lunchbreak more than most and it would be counter productive to make them miss lunchtimes. Time spent running around can actually improve their ability to concentrate post lunch and to be "available" for learning. I am also a senior school SENCO and we withdraw pupils from curriculum lessons - obviously not core subjects - instead we tend to take them out of MFL or possibly music or art subject to their skills/preferences. Our argument is that a pupil struggling with English should not be required to take on another language as well until they have acquired the skillls necessary to cope with the rest of the curriculum.
