I can only think of the obvious things which we do: -talk quietly and calmly. -Get the pupil away from the stressful situation to a calm environment as soon as possible and let her have her say. (ignore the bad language) -Also of course a walk outside in the fresh air, preferably with a football to kick! -Ask her if she'd like to kick the wall (outside) to get rid of her anger. -Encourage her to get rid of the anger and frustration in some way rather than bottling it up. -Rip up a piece of paper, crumple a plastic cup...whatever it doesn't matter. I'm sure you've thought of all these, Sorry I can't think of anything original. A number of years ago, before political correctness when we had our first ever diagnosed ADHD pupil (about 1990)the advice from the Child and Family Services to keep the pupil calm in class, was to stand behind him and put our hands on his shoulders, pressing gently down. This and talking quietly worked. What a pity such a strategy can no longer be used! Chris |
