Article: [senco-forum] Advice -again ... must be a good forum

Hi Stuart,

Dr. Ian Smythe is the authority on this one. He did a piece of research for
the University of Surrey. In summary, there was not a single preferred font
that dyslexics found easiest to read that produced fewer errors. Whilst
Comic sans is preferred my some dyslexic pupils, others can't get on with it
at all. It was published in summary form in BDA Dyslexia Contact some 6-7
years back.

Smythe's research found that often the font a dyslexic adult found most easy
to read was the one they last read. So consistency is the key. Having to
read lots of different fonts is not good news.

As to colour, yes cream paper is really useful, but again not universally
welcomed, I can't remember what Ian's findings were on this. But if the
school runs out, or doesn't stock it, coloured overlays can be just as
helpful.

How was the SCIS Conference yesterday, did you go this year?

Yours

Colin

Hi All -

An oldie but a goldie!

What is the latest advice about choice of font?

At one point it was 'comic sans' and all my docs are in that format -

But I would like to recommend a font for all our internal exams at the
end of the year e.g. Times font 12 ??

And would you recommend they are all on cream coloured paper??

Thanks for all replies.

Stuart
