Just to add to all the other great advice.

Ideally your 'time out' room should be painted pastel green
and have a pink light bulb.

No, seriously. I think the research was done in Police
Stations in Yorkshire (though I may be wrong) where they
attempted to work out what combinations of colour would best
calm down out of control detainees.
