Instead of underlining each line in a different colour, try writing each line in a different colour. You may have to buy your own pack of whiteboard markers to get a good selection of 8/10 [our school buys in only black, blue, red and green]. It seems to help children other than dyslexics if you can tell them that they are now on the line of orange writing/whatever, to help keep their place. Ideally, most dyslexic children will not need to copy from the board, as they often "lose" the words between board and paper. If work to be copied can be provided on a sheet/card and placed under the child's book and moved upwards, so that the line to be written is the last one to be visible, that is often more helpful. A variety of coloured board markers is also needed when showing children how to do Mind Mapping: enjoyed by all the children I have taught it to,easier for dyslexics than lots of writing and a good way for those artisitically inclined to shine at something! One last "Top Tip" from a child that I work with, who wishes that everyone would remember that he's dyslexic, not stupid! Regards Jean S Wales I want to e mail all the teachers in the Primary school where I work, a > Tip > of the Week to do with meeting the needs children with dyslexia - things > the whole class might benefit from - eg if they have to copy from the > board, underline each line with a different colour etc. Wondered what your > top tips would be?
