Hi Chris Have you seen Towards Successful Learning: Introducing a Model for Supporting and Guiding Successful Learning and Teaching in Schools by Diana Pardoe She talks a lot of sense about making children work harder by empowering them to succeed. One of her ideas is to negotiate what makes a 'good listening audience'. My classes called it a 'high quality listening audience' and they came up with these in this order: be quiet look in the right place sit still They then made their own posters. This worked with Years 7, 8 and 9 and I have colleagues who have done the same thing with reception upwards. Di Pardoe also has loads of fantastic ideas about how to make sure that pupils know how to work in class as well as teachers knowing how to make sure they can. Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall Still very embarrassed at recommending what is a a government initiative backed by the LA at my time of life! Chris Alexander <chris at alexander.eclipse.co.uk> wrote: Before I start reinventing the wheel could anyone point me in the right direction for classroom "posters" (they don't have to be very grand, though) with good learning behaviours? I'm looking for something suitable for Year 1 / 2 class - a set with prompts, e.g. hands still, look at the teacher etc. (Seems my class need these basic reminders on a highly regular basis, and I'm sure the trainee teacher working with us would appreciate some more help!!) Also due to a hard disk crash recently I lost all my "Favourites" and it's going to take ages rebuilding that resource. If anyone has any primary school resource sites to recommend I would be very grateful. Many thanks, Chris Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall |
