Hi Amanda, This is always my worry, when a new statemented pupil arrives and new LSA staff are taken on. I know some schools used to employ LSAs specifically for certain pupils and their contract was such that when the pupil left, the LSA contract was up and they either left or re applied for another position in the school, if one was available. I wondered if any schools still operated like this. Helen (primary SENCO) Hello everyone Just had an interesting experience. Mother and daughter move into my catchment area. Pupil has moved down from another LA where she has been in a Special School for EBD. She is in Year 9. My LA allocate her 25 hours a week and we advertise, interview and appoint to cover that time. The new TA gives up her secure but dull job in a local supermarket in order to work for us. School staff rally round and help mum to get uniform. The girl arrives. I spend a day doing the usual tests, allocate her to sets, discuss which tutor group she will be in, make sure she can get lunch and so on. I phone mum daily to report on progress. After seven school days, the girl does not appear in school. We contact mum on her mobile phone. They have returned to their previous LA. Mum is back living in the house she used to live in up there. Mum has phoned the LA to say she wants a mainstream placement for her daughter. I realise that the needs of the child are paramount but this is the second time we have been put in this position by parents - to appoint a new member of staff only to find that the child is going to another school. Any comments? Amanda Amanda Secondary SENCO Cornwall ___________________________________________________________ All new Yahoo!
